Werner Van Steen

After a first visit to Alaska in 1998, Werner decided to take up nature and wildlife photography after teaching himself the techniques, learning from books and practicing on his own. Not long after, World Wildlife Fund Belgium used his pictures for calendars and greeting cards and Werner was invited for numerous expositions both national and international.
Among international recognitions, Werner got a Highly commended image in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2007 contest and won the Nature’s studio category with an abstract image of lava in the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011.
As a former mountain climber and later on a free climbing champion in the 90’s, he most of all loves to photograph mountains but Werner can be found travelling all over the world in search for various nature subjects under the best light...
