Sylvain Thiabaud

Frenchman Sylvain was born in August 1985 and is from Savoyard, well, from the Maurienne valley in the Southern French Alps exactly.
He descibes himself as a 'Polymorphous climber': boulder, big walls, bolting or just one pitch routes... 'When you love, you don't count the cost !!'
'Bolting is a second passion : the hundredth route is very close, and it will be most probably in the Pyrénées.'
Sylvain is an Outdoor sports addict : VTT (mountain biking) , trail running, skiing, adventure races... he says - 'you have to do something else, when there's no skin any more on the fingers !!'
He cleverly manages to combine his passion for the outdoors with his job. Sylvain is a Sport teacher at the University of Toulouse, he is also the Climbing Monitor and the Climbing, Mountaineering and Orienteering Head.
Below are his major achievements of the past few years.
2002 : first 8B route
2003 : first bolted routes
2005 : 2° at the national speed championship (Valence)
2005 - 2008 : exile in Brittany ; first adventures races
2006 : winner of the adventure race « Les Balcons de la Baie »
2008 : winner of the boulder contest « Roc en Stock », Nantes
2009 : winner of adventure races : « Odyssée Celtique » & « Métro Vert »
2010 : bolting « Crétins des Alpes », 8c/+ in the Maurienne valley ; first pull-ups in Dry Tooling (so good !!)
2011 : exile in the southwest of France (Toulouse) ; National Competition Opener ; bolting Vae Victis , 8b+/c in Ariège (Tarascon valley) ; and many more projects . . . . including . . . . 'Bolting of 2 secrets spots & 1 big wall in Alps. Travel for bouldering and routes !! Trail & adventure races. So many routes over 8a as possible!!'
